Soft and good

Soft & Good is a semester-long deep dive into the therapeutic process of hand-sewn plush making.

During this project I made a series of small plushes with big personalities.

Ending with a challenge to transform two friends into their new plush selves!

FREDDIE

Freddie was my first experiment with patterning a three-dimensional form. As a staple character of many of my old drawings, Freddie felt like the perfect place to start for my first piece.

Although he may seem fragile, thats only how he looks. He’s (one)armed and ready to handle as much love as you can give.

edgar

Edgar is a little lucky kitty whose dual colored eyes seem to look right into your soul.

As one of my first experiments with thread-sculpting, Edgar holds a special place in my heart even if he has no hands.

NORMAn

Norman is a little brown bat with a big personality!

He’s the perfect size to wrap his wings around you in a big hug! And, his eyes and teeth glow in the dark so you can find him any time of night.

After seeing how happy my work made everybody in my class, I decided to have a little contest to give away a plush to one of my friends.

Two people actually won the contest, so I decided to turn both of my friends into stuffed animals!

I asked around to find out what aspects of them stood out in peoples minds…

Some of the answers were: tall and graceful, wide eyes, and a sharp mind.

Always happy to see you, a loyal friend, great for hugs!

So, Deerdra and lucky were born!
